Stendra treats sexual dysfunction by inhibiting an enzyme called PDE5. This enzyme controls circulation and blood flow. By lowering PDE5 levels, Stendra increases blood flow to the penis. This makes it easier for men with sexual dysfunction to get and maintain a firm erection for sexual intercourse. When taking Stendra, you will need to be sexually aroused in order to get an erection. After sex, your erection should go down naturally. Stendra is a fast-acting medication that can start working in as few as 15 minutes.
Stendra is a popular choice among men with sexual dysfunction because it works quickly. Most men do not have to wait long to get a firm erection and the effects can last for up to 6 hours. That means many men can get more than one erection per dose. Stendra was introduced in 2012, which makes it one of the newest sexual dysfunction medications on the market. When used as a treatment for sexual dysfunction, Stendra is covered by most health insurance plans.
Patients can take Stendra approximately 15 minutes to 1 hour before sexual activity. After taking Stendra, you must be sexually stimulated in order to achieve an erection. If you’ve been diagnosed with sexual dysfunction, your doctor may prescribe Stendra in 50-milligram, 100-milligram, or 200-milligram doses. A US-licensed physician can help you determine the recommended dosage. To minimize side effects, you may want to start with the lowest possible dose and adjust as necessary. Never take more than one tablet every 24 hours. Do not take Stendra with other prescription medications used to treat sexual dysfunction. Limit your alcohol consumption while taking Stendra. Remember that Stendra does not protect you from sexually transmitted diseases or prevent pregnancy.
Many men do not experience side effects while taking Stendra. However, minor side effects are possible, including headache, redness in the face, nasal congestion, runny nose, sore throat, flu-like symptoms, and back pain. Serious side effects are rare, but can include painful erections that last more than 4 hours, sudden vision loss, sudden hearing loss, or ringing in the ears. If you experience one of these serious side effects while taking Stendra, seek immediate medical attention.
Before starting Stendra, you should undergo a complete physical examination. Tell your doctor if you have had cardiovascular problems, including heart attack, heart failure, angina, arrhythmia, high blood pressure, low blood pressure, or heart surgery. It may not be safe for you to take Stendra if you have certain medical conditions, including sickle cell anemia, leukemia, multiple myeloma, bleeding disorders, ulcers, kidney problems, or liver damage. Tell your doctor if you have a penile deformity, or if you have ever had a prolonged erection that lasted more than 4 hours. When you buy Stendra at MedicalWeb, include these conditions on your medical consultation form. If you’re not sure if it’s safe for you to use Stendra, make an appointment with your physician for a full evaluation.
To avoid a potentially dangerous interaction, tell your doctor or pharmacist about all your current prescription medications, over-the-counter drugs, supplements, and vitamins. Taking Stendra with other medications can increase the occurrence of side effects. You should not take Stendra with certain prescription medications, including nitrates, alpha-blockers, HIV medications, oral antifungal medications, and other drugs used to treat sexual dysfunction. A US-licensed physician or pharmacist can help you determine if it’s safe for you to take Stendra. Always take Stendra as directed by your doctor or pharmacist.
If you have sexual dysfunction, talk to your doctor about your treatment options. A US-licensed physician can identify the best treatments for your particular situation. Never start or stop taking Stendra, or any prescription medication, without consulting your doctor. A physician may be able to adjust your dose or help you find the right medication. To avoid side effects while taking Stendra, always use the lowest possible therapeutic dose.

This drug does not protect against sexually transmitted diseases (such as HIV, hepatitis B, gonorrhea, syphilis). To decrease your risk of infection, always use an effective barrier method (latex or polyurethane condom/dental dams) during all sexual activity. Consult your doctor or pharmacist for more details.

Remember that your doctor has prescribed this medication because he or she has judged that the benefit to you is greater than the risk of side effects. Many people using this medication do not have serious side effects. Sexual activity may put extra strain on your heart, especially if you have heart problems. If you have heart problems and experience any of these serious side effects while having sex, stop and get medical help right away: severe dizziness, fainting, chest/jaw/left arm pain, nausea. Rarely, sudden decreased vision, including permanent blindness, in one or both eyes (NAION) may occur. If this serious problem occurs, stop taking avanafil and get medical help right away. You have a slightly greater chance of developing NAION if you have heart disease, diabetes, high cholesterol, certain other eye problems ("crowded disk"), high blood pressure, if you are over 50, or if you smoke. Rarely, a sudden decrease or loss of hearing, sometimes with ringing in the ears and dizziness, may occur. Stop taking avanafil and get medical help right away if these effects occur. In the rare event you have a painful or prolonged erection lasting 4 or more hours, stop using this drug and get medical help right away, or permanent problems could occur. However, get medical help right away if you notice any symptoms of a serious allergic reaction, including: rash, itching/swelling (especially of the face/tongue/throat), severe dizziness, trouble breathing. Do not start, stop, or change the dosage of any medicines without your doctor's approval. A product that may interact with this drug is: riociguat. Avanafil can cause a serious drop in your blood pressure when used with nitrates, which can lead to dizziness, fainting, and rarely heart attack or stroke. Do not use avanafil with any of the following: certain drugs used to treat chest pain/angina (nitrates such as nitroglycerin, isosorbide), recreational drugs called "poppers" containing amyl or butyl nitrite. If you are also taking an alpha blocker medication (such as doxazosin, tamsulosin) to treat an enlarged prostate/BPH or high blood pressure, your blood pressure may get too low which can lead to dizziness or fainting. Your doctor may start treatment with a lower dose of avanafil to minimize your risk of low blood pressure.
